PHOENIX – Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer released the following statement today regarding Saturday’s shooting in Tucson that claimed the lives of six individuals and left several wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords:
“Like all Arizonans, news of Saturday’s shooting in Tucson left me shocked and saddened. The death of six individuals attending a meeting with their congresswoman is an outrage. This horrific event is not indicative of the Arizona I know and love.
“Our hearts go out to those who were struck down in this senseless tragedy, including U.S. District Judge John Roll and congressional staff member Gabe Zimmerman. Our country has lost two distinguished public servants. Judge Roll was a man of great integrity and a highly respected jurist. We also extend our thoughts to the families of Christina Greene, Dorothy Murray, Dorwin Stoddard and Phyllis Scheck.
“I commend the quick-thinking bystanders and first responders whose actions saved the life of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Their life-saving efforts prevented a terrible tragedy from being even worse.
“The congresswoman and all those affected by Saturday’s senseless tragedy are in our prayers. Now is the time for Arizona to come together and mourn those who lost their lives and pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded.”
