Comments Off on Statement on Passage of Publicly Funded Elections SCR

PHOENIX – Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer released the following statement following today’s passage of SCR 1025, which will send the Stop Public Money for Political Candidates’ Campaigns Act to voters on the Nov. 2012 ballot:

“The state Legislature and the bill’s author, Sen. Steve Pierce, should be applauded for striking a blow for taxpayers today by passing SCR 1025. Now voters will have the chance to revisit the subject of publicly funded political campaigns and decide whether this failed experiment should continue. In this economic climate, when every dollar the government touches should be directed toward the core government functions that have been affected by this Great Recession, I’m confident that voters will pass the Stop Public Money for Political Candidates’ Campaigns Act by a wide margin.

“I know that for many legislators, the decision to send the question of publicly funded elections back to the voters was a difficult one. But they did the right thing. We simply can’t reconcile cuts to areas like health care and education with public funds directed towards politicians’ campaigns.”
