Spicer, Executive Director, Arizona Indian Gaming Association elected at April board meeting
PHOENIX — The Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry is pleased to announce the addition of Valerie Spicer, Executive Director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association (AIGA), to the Arizona Chamber Board of Directors.
With 26 years of experience in the public and private sectors, Ms. Spicer stands as a well-respected member of the gaming industry. She has been named as a “Great Woman of Gaming” and as a “Proven Leader” byCasino Enterprise Managementmagazine. In 2004Global Gaming Businessmagazine named her one of the “Top 25 People to Watch”.
“The addition of Ms. Spicer to the Arizona Chamber Board of Directors is a proud moment for our organization,” Arizona Chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer said. “Ms. Spicer’s extensive experience in the gaming industry will provide valuable insight as the Arizona Chamber continues our efforts to advance Arizona’s competitive position.”
The Arizona Indian Gaming Association (AIGA) represents 90% of the Indian people living on reservations in Arizona. The Association is committed to advancing the lives of Indian peoples – economically, socially, and politically – so tribes in Arizona can achieve their goal of self-reliance. AIGA speaks on behalf of its member tribes with one, unified voice, serving as a clearinghouse and educational, legislative and public policy resource for tribes, policy makers and the public on Indian gaming issues and tribal community development.
Each year the revenue sharing of AIGA’s member tribes provides significant funding to Arizona education, health care, tourism, and wildlife conservation. In 2011, revenue sharing totaled $84.9 million, with $21 million going towards trauma and emergency services in the state.
“AIGA and its member tribes have made significant investments in Arizona – bettering life for all citizens,” Hamer said. “We look forward to working with them to continue the betterment of our state.”
Chairman of the Board Doug Yonko added, “Ms. Spicer’s understanding of the positive economic impact of the Arizona gaming industry will be a great asset to the Arizona Chamber board. We welcome Ms. Spicer to the Chamber and look forward to working with her on issues important to Arizona business.”
Ms. Spicer joins a board of over 100 leaders from across the Arizona business community.
