Recommendations an important first step in sales tax simplification

PHOENIX – The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry commends the work of a TPT (Transaction Privilege Tax) task force assembled by Gov. Jan Brewer, which today released its recommendations for simplifying Arizona’s complicated sales tax system.

The governor established the TPT Simplification Task Force earlier this year. The panel met 17 times over a period of seven months with input from the public and business owners.

“Arizona’s sales tax system is so complicated that it hurts our state’s ability to attract and grow jobs,” Arizona Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Glenn Hamer said. “This report is an important first step in analyzing our TPT system and in seeking ways to simplify it while promoting increased compliance.

“We look forward to working with the governor and Legislature as these ideas get debated in 2013 and as we seek to build on the monumental progress the state made in tax reform in recent legislative sessions.”
