PHOENIX – Gov. Doug Ducey announced today that the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry and A for Arizona will provide technical assistance and guidance to the governor’s Classrooms First Initiative Council.

The Chamber and A for Arizona join the Center for School Funding Portability at the Reason Foundation, the Arizona School Boards Association, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, the Goldwater Institute, the Center for Student Achievement at the Arizona Charter Schools Association, the Arizona Association of School Business Officials, and the Education Finance Reform Group as technical advisers to the Council.

“A for Arizona is honored to be part of this outstanding group of leaders who are working to modernize Arizona’s school financing system in a way that encourages excellence and the expansion of outstanding educational models,” A for Arizona Executive Director Lisa Graham Keegan said. “I can’t wait to get to work.”

The Council was formed by Executive Order in January and will submit preliminary recommendations in September and a final report in December.

“It is clear that Arizona needs an education financing system that more accurately reflects our current educational landscape, which is defined by choice and competition,” Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer said. “Gov. Ducey should be applauded for assembling a top-notch Council, which includes Chamber Board Member Janna Day, to produce recommendations that policymakers can act on. The Chamber looks forward to providing the perspective of Arizona’s business community throughout the Council’s work.”
