PHOENIX (April 5, 2021)—Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry Interim President and CEO Garrick Taylor released the following statement regarding S.B. 1377, a liability protection bill signed into law on Monday by Gov. Doug Ducey:
“For the past year, more than 100 industry organizations and community leaders have worked with the Arizona Legislature and Gov. Doug Ducey to provide much-needed liability protections for job creators and frontline workers. Those protections are now a reality thanks to Gov. Ducey signing Senate Bill 1377 into law.
“S.B. 1377 will provide commonsense liability protections that would allow legitimate claims to proceed when appropriate, but also protect good actors from events beyond their control. Businesses, schools, building owners and other entities continue to take action to protect their customers, students, and building tenants, and are implementing safety protocols and sanitation measures to control the spread of Covid-19.
“Our frontline health care providers should be able to continue to carry out their lifesaving work to protect their patients without fear of frivolous lawsuits.
“This new law sends a strong message to employers across Arizona and the nation that Gov. Ducey and lawmakers are committed to accelerating our state’s post-pandemic economic recovery. The Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry thanks them for their hard work to ensure this bill became law.”
