PHOENIX – The Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry applauds Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake for their leadership in the passage of immigration reform in the U.S. Senate.
“The performance of Arizona’s senators throughout the immigration debate has been outstanding. Their border-state perspective has been critical to today’s passage of immigration reform legislation in the Senate with 68 votes,” Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer said. “The border ‘surge’ portion of the bill would direct an unprecedented level of enforcement resources to Arizona’s southern border, while the visa reforms included in the bill would provide a tremendous boost to the nation’s economy, increasing our competitiveness.”
The Arizona Chamber has been a consistent supporter of immigration reform at the federal level.
“The bill has momentum and broad support across Arizona and the country,” Hamer said. “It is critically important the House also pass a broad immigration reform measure and work with the Senate to get a bill to the president’s desk this year.”
The Arizona Chamber, in partnership with Greater Phoenix Leadership and other business groups in February drafted a letter of support to Senators McCain and Flake that garnered the signatures of over 125 business leaders from around the state and recently signed onto a U.S. Chamber letter urging the Senate to pass a bill that is of critical importance to the nation’s economic health.
