Arizona Chamber and Arizona Manufacturers Council strongly oppose job-killing energy mandate initiative
PHOENIX (March 23, 2018) – Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer and Arizona Manufacturers Council Executive Director Allison Gilbreath released the following joint statement announcing each organization’s opposition to an initiative proposed by California billionaire activist Tom Steyer that would result in a dramatic spike in energy costs and harm Arizona’s competitiveness:
“Arizona’s job creators strongly reject the risky scheme proposed by billionaire activist Tom Steyer, and we will vigorously urge Arizona voters to do the same.
“Were it to pass, it would enshrine in the Arizona Constitution mandates that would result in dramatically higher energy prices – estimates are that corporate and industrial rates would rise over 100 percent, and residential ratepayers would see an average annual increase of $1,250 – which would create a significant drag on the overall economy and reduce the state’s competitive standing.
“It would cost jobs and hurt Arizona ratepayers, but Steyer wouldn’t have to live with the consequences.
“Steyer should take his radical agenda and head back to California. Arizona is doing just fine without him.”
