Arizona Chamber statement on Gov. Doug Ducey’s State of the State address

Chamber CEO Hamer says “plenty of reasons to cheer” for plans outlined by governor

PHOENIX (January 11, 2021)—Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer released the following statement:

“Gov. Ducey’s State of the State address hit all the right notes and served as a needed reminder that the past year has proven that Arizona, despite tremendous challenges, is resilient.

“Better days are ahead thanks to the arrival of two effective vaccines and their statewide rollout, including a new 24/7 vaccination site recently launched at State Farm Stadium because of the governor’s leadership that will vaccinate thousands of Arizonans every day. His praise for our healthcare heroes is one that we strongly share.

“Today’s speech gave us plenty of reasons to cheer. The agenda laid out by Gov. Ducey was full of items the Chamber and job creators look forward to working on with him and legislators from both parties. We share his desire to close academic achievement gaps, to protect parents’ right to choose the best educational environment for their kids, to continue the economic recovery by reforming our tax code to encourage job growth, to prevent plaintiffs attorneys from leveraging the pandemic for financial gain, and to expand broadband, which is essential for our continued economic development and our students and schools. We also believe that his rejection of a lockdown is the correct call.

“We especially appreciate the tone struck by the governor today, and we endorse his call for integrity, unity, and compassion. As we commence with the legislative session and seek ways to support the economic recovery and restore Arizona’s health, let’s do so with a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. We look forward to a safe, productive, and successful legislative session.”
