Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer released the following statement regarding the filing of petition signatures by advocates of a ballot initiative to cap the compensation of health care leaders:
“This proposition by out-of-state labor unions would collapse Arizona’s healthcare industry and dramatically harm other sectors of our economy. Arizona would be the only state in the country to adopt this terrible economic policy that will drive away jobs in the healthcare sector and other industries.
“These out-of-state labor interests are using our initiative process to carry out an agenda that will harm Arizonans. We should all be deeply concerned about this risky scheme. Today out-of-state labor unions have targeted health care, but next it’s manufacturing, and then tourism, then technology, and then mining and resources. We must tell these out-of-state unions that Arizona’s initiative process isn’t theirs to experiment with.
“Arizona is home to internationally renowned hospitals that are providing treatment and care on the cutting edge of medicine. This is something to celebrate, not attack. We should work to attract more world-class healthcare providers, not adopt policies to push them away.
“The Chamber will work hard to convince Arizona voters to reject this terrible proposition in November.”
