Today, the world recognizes PING as a leading golf equipment manufacturer known for developing high-tech, custom-fit golf clubs of the highest quality. But the golf-tech revolution started back in the late 1950’s when engineer Karsten Solheim struggled with his golf game. Putters of that time period simply didn’t work for Solheim, so he used his engineering background to solve the problem: he re-engineered and rebuilt the putter and named it “PING” after the sound of the metal striking the golf ball. So began a new era in golf: the PING era.
PING is a family owned and operated U.S. manufacturer of golf equipment and accessories, making its products in Phoenix, Arizona for over 56 years. As one of the Arizona’s most prominent manufacturers of products for one of the state’s most popular attractions (fore!), it was no surprise when the White House selected PING as the Arizona representative for the ‘Made in America’ initiative highlighting top U.S. manufacturers from each of the fifty states.
“Your drivers are very good,” President Trump told the PING representative in Washington, D.C. on Monday. No doubt! We know PING is an Arizona gem and are thrilled to see recognition from the highest levels of government. At a time when public policy issues affecting manufacturers are at the forefront of the national discussion, elected leaders celebrating U.S. manufacturers – the job creators – and promising to safeguard their wares and their workers are welcome acknowledgements.
Made in America featured a product showcase of domestically-manufactured goods – from firetrucks to flags, lawnmowers to beer, door hinges to baseball bats. President Trump signed a proclamation to declare July 17 – the day of the Made in America expo –as Made in America Day and July 16-July 22 as Made in America Week to highlight the administration’s intention to encourage American manufacturers going forward.

We appreciate our congressional and executive leaders taking time to see and touch American made products. We feel incredibly honored to be chosen to represent Arizona manufacturing at the Made in America event,” said Dawn Grove, Corporate Counsel for Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, PING’s parent company. Ms. Grove chairs the Arizona Manufacturers Council, the official Arizona affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), and also serves on NAM’s board of directors.
